No way to tell the model year of the early wagoneer by the VIN I think they left the assembly line running for three years and just built em unlike GM or Ford that would have an official model change (indicated by VIN) at around July and August and showing up at dealers in Sept/Oct or later in the year. Personally, I dont think the Jeep factory saw a model year changeover as there was verituall NO difference between a 63 and 65 wagoneer OHC.

In a normal (General Motors or Chysler) world, this would have meant that the car carrier picked up the thing during the summer of 64 and had it to the dealer shortly thereafter. The engine casting date code says Feb of 64, the orig fuel pump says Mar of 64 and all of the LOF window glass is date coded as march of 64. My rig is registered as a 63 but after looking at specific components on the rig it was easy to tell that my wag was built around april to june of 1964 and probably should have been titeld as such. Pretty safe to say that if it has a Willys tag its a 63. Would there be a number stamped someplace on the frame (other) that would be the correct number? This truck does have the WO tailgate, 3 bar grill, F-head engine. The VIN tag looks like a replacement and has the wrong horsepower (60 H.P.) on it too. I suspect this number '1T51198' is perhaps the engine number, I'll have to check.
